This thesis examines French-American relations during the Great War in France according to the letters and individual experience of Robert Storrs Osgood, an American pastor who went to France in December 1917 to work with the Y.M.C.A. as the American director of the Foyer du Soldat in Saint-Ouen and Cazaux, France until the end of 1918. The letters (which date from December 6, 1917- July 26, 1919) include the letters that Osgood wrote back home to his wife, Anna Preston Adams, while he was in France, as well as the letters that Osgood received from his French friends. These letters offer a glimpse of the nature of French-American relations during WWI.
