Kangaroo : an examination of Japanese theatre in the 1960s and a translation

What would you do if you woke up one day, and everyone told you that you were a kangaroo? This is the premise of Kangaroo (1967) by contemporary Japanese playwright Betsuyaku Minoru. In translating this play, I have explored why so few contemporary Japanese plays have been translated, the socio-historical background of Japan in the 1960s, and the influence of the Western Absurdist movement on contemporary Japanese theatre.
