Abstract
This thesis traces the historical and mythic influence of the American West in Kittitas County and its role in the local Shady Acres crisis, in which a low-income, largely Latinx community faces displacement as a result of a county plan to expand the nearby rodeo and fair grounds. This project examines how and why Shady Acres residents have been constructed as undeserving of place and community by proponents and planners of the expansion.
